Coach stipends vary among schools

At Arlington, it’s not uncommon to find Patchett mowing the football field or painting the yard lines. He has five paid assistants and no volunteer coaches. A fifth-year coach, Patchett makes $6,491 this year as a coaching stipend on top of his $51,921 salary as a teacher.

Based on a survey of the largest 20 high schools in the Indianapolis area with football programs, Ben Davis doles out the most money on coaching stipends for its head coach and assistants. Kirschner, 47, is paid a stipend of $12,627 this season, on top of his $75,448 annual salary as a business teacher.
