Ferris High School boys basketball coach Don Van Lierop, whose teams have won two straight state championships, has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation of inappropriate conduct. Spokane police say a student has accused Van Lierop of inappropriate contact. Further details have not been released.

The New England Patriots have named a coach accused of abusing a player as the team’s “Coach of the Week.” Marblehead High School football coach Doug Chernovetz was honored by the Pats last week for leading the Magicians to their first winning season since 1992. The problem is the Patriots reportedly didn’t know Chernovetz is facing a civil complaint from a former player who claims the coach assaulted and intimidated him.

At Arlington, it’s not uncommon to find Patchett mowing the football field or painting the yard lines. He has five paid assistants and no volunteer coaches. A fifth-year coach, Patchett makes $6,491 this year as a coaching stipend on top of his $51,921 salary as a teacher.

Based on a survey of the largest 20 high schools in the Indianapolis area with football programs, Ben Davis doles out the most money on coaching stipends for its head coach and assistants. Kirschner, 47, is paid a stipend of $12,627 this season, on top of his $75,448 annual salary as a business teacher.

KLTV 7 has learned new information of a solicitation arrest involving a minor that landed an East Texas coach behind bars. The New Diana coach and teacher is accused of sending a 15-year old Union Hill student text messages to meet for sex.

39 year old John Tiger is charged with online solicitation and is currently in an Upshur County jail on $500,000 bond. Tiger was arrested Saturday. KLTV 7′s LaKecia Shockley has more on how the girl’s mother helped officers make the arrest.

Former swim coach arrested again on child porn charge

More accusations have been made against Jeffrey Steven Woodyard, who was head coach of Nansemond Swim Club in northern Suffolk. Woodyard was arrested Aug. 8, two additional victims have emerged, Suffolk city spokeswoman Debbie George said. The boys, ages 15 and 16, both received text messages that encouraged them to send inappropriate photos to Woodyard.

YOU’VE HEARD of soccer moms, and more recently, hockey moms. But Lisa Giles is a far more unusual species — a football mom so in love with the game and the kids who play it that she found her way to the sidelines as a coach.

Giles has been assistant for six years with the San Leandro Crusaders Pop Warner league, coaching boys age 8-10 at the junior pee-wee division (ages 8-10). She doesn’t just hand out halftime snacks, either. She runs drills, calls plays, dissects film and dishes out discipline with the best of her male comrades.
